The Whitney Museum of American Art Letters to Mr Ailey

A global project inviting people to share letters, drawings, videos, and stories about how Alvin Ailey, the legendary choreographer inspired them.

Celebrities like Michelle Obama, Vanessa Williams, Debbie Allen, Kara Walker, and Darren Walker joined hundreds of fans and dancers in celebrating Ailey’s lasting impact.

This project was directly connected to the exhibition Edges of Ailey, the first museum show dedicated to his life and legacy.
